Hi Pal,
I’ve been on Substack for almost four years and I generally suck at all the marketing and publicity stuff that folks say leads to “exponential growth”. I’m grateful to everyone who has stuck around with our simple format and a simple love for these amazing Christian creatives.
If you’re new to this, I began this series to share 6 tunes I’m enjoying that were released fairly recently.
Jeff Buckley by Andy Squyres
Indie Rock, Art Rock
Andy Squyres recently released a new EP (Miracle Service), and I’ve had it on repeat since it came out. Of all the tunes on this short masterpiece, something about this song resonates deeply in me. It’s the lyrics, the texture of his voice, the instrumentation and the way everything comes together. It feels…right.
all in time by Christian Singleton
Indie Pop
Christian Singleton can do just about anything genre-wise, but there’s always something special about her music when she dips into indie/electro pop. The damper emotions might be “cooler” to express, but she [Singleton] knows how to create joyful tunes even with serious lyrical themes. I can’t quite express how happy this song makes me every time I listen.
Calling by Zoetic
Jazz Pop
Speaking of fun, Zoetic is back with a new single. These women are two of the most creative people making music today. Their debut album, released last year, was one of my highlights of the year, and they are back with another engaging tune with their signature twists and turns.
As You Are One by Civilized Creature
Trip-hop, Experimental, Electronic
What genre does Ryan [Civilized Creature] even make at this point? Ryan Lane has been quietly consistent with the singles this year, and they’ve all been very good. On this track, he leans heavily into the jazzy lofi hip-hop sensibilities in the product and vocal delivery. It’s a classy tune.
Gotta Lean by Eva Swanson
Alternative R&B
The day we finally get a cohesive project from Eva — LP or EP — will be epic. She tends to be busy with life, but I can’t help wanting more when I listen to a new single. Thankfully, she’s been more consistent with releases over the last 18 months because she is genuinely one of the best voices on the scene.
I Pray by Jesse Frohling, Eliza King
Pop, Devotional
I have been pleasantly surprised by how taken I’ve been by this tune lately. There’s something about the song structure and how Jesse and Eliza share the vocal responsibilities that I am drawn to. It also helps that the song’s message is deeply relevant to me and easy to connect with.
That’s it for today.
Catch you at the next one!
