Hi Pal,
Welcome to Artist/Band Spotlight. This is a newsletter where I have short introductory conversations with artists and bands on the Christian music scene.
Bio: We are Dani and Rafa, twin sisters from São Paulo, Brazil, based in the UK, that decided to start a band together back in 2015. We started playing our songs at family gatherings and with our university friends during prayer meetings.
In 2017 we released our first song
Volta, a song inspired by the book of Revelation and the Second Coming of Jesus, and from there on we never stop putting our songs out there.
Q: Hi, can you talk to us about your inspiration and motivation for creating music?
Cether is a word that comes from Hebrew which means “secret place” and I think that this is the place where our songs come from. The secret place is the place of intimacy with God and where we get to hear what God wants to say and encounter the Holy Spirit. Most of our songs are born like that; from prayers, personal experiences and things that we’ve been hearing from God.
Q: How would you describe your sound and your creative process?
Dani: I think our sound is very mixed. We get inspiration from so many different sources — things we used to listen with our parents and grandparents, things we listened to growing up, Brazilian music, pop-rock, and different genres. So, we try to implement little details from these different genres. Have a lot of fun with our sound!
Rafa: Our creative process is usually very fun as we get the opportunity to work together. We come with different ideas and perspectives as well. Although we are twins and sisters, and spend a lot of time together, we always have something different to bring to the table. It really varies on the situation. Sometimes, Dani brings melody and I the lyrics. Sometimes, she brings the whole song and then I come with ideas, and vice-versa.
Dani: We are always complementing each other and now that we have been collaborating with other artistes, it adds to this experience of collaboration and has been really great.
Q: How has 2023 been for you so far musically and what can folks expect from you for the rest of the year?
2023 has been an amazing year for us. We are getting the opportunity to work with so many people that we love and friends that are incredible artistes and musicians. It is really nice to work with them in music and been able to express ourselves creatively, and see the friendships flourishing. It is really special.
We are planning on releasing more songs and collaborations; we have a song coming out on Friday, 28th of July [
Editor’s note: this single is currently out
] and it’s a collaboration with two amazing friends. But, I think that for the rest of the year, we are trying and hoping to start working on our new album. It will be our first album in English but also the first full album we will have the opportunity to work on.
Here are some final thoughts from Cether:
