Hi Pal,
If you're new, you picked a great time to join us. Everyone else, you already know what time it is. If you missed it, here’s where you’ll find all the end-of-year lists.
This deep into it, we already know why we are here. So let’s continue…
30. with love, always ♡ II by Sarah Nathalié
Alternative R&B
If you’re new to the with love, always
project, you should probably check out part one from 2023. Sarah Nathalié has consistently delivered some of the best alternative R&B on the scene with her light airy vocals blended nicely with lofi-infused production.
29. Siblings Rival by Weak Sheep
Indie Rock
Last year, Weak Sheep was a surprise addition to my indie rock library. I was captured by how she infuses Heartland rock and neo-psychedelia elements into her composition. Throughout the year, she released a few singles and I was quite happy to get a new EP as we got closer to the end. It’s pretty good stuff.
28. This Is The End by Joshua Lazer
EDM
I love many subgenres of electronic music, but I used to think I had somehow outgrown EDM. Joshua Lazer is one of the artists who showed me its depth and potential, especially in communicating scriptural truths.
27. From Me, To God by Lee Vasi
R&B
Here’s another entry that was one of my surprises of the year. On one of those rare occasions where the algorithm gave me something I needed, I met Lee Vasi and haven’t stopped listening since. As I said in previous entries, R&B was good this year.
26. 24/3 by Colorvault
Art Pop, Electropop
I’ve already spoken about how great the three EPs we got from Colorvault were this year. While the first was the weakest, very little separates the third from the second release. They both reflect this group at their absolute best.
25. Matin: Rest by Jess Ray
Singer-Songwriter, Folk
Right in the middle of this list is my final entry from Jess Ray which is the first of the MATIN series. Music listening is often a subjective experience and there’s nothing I can point to that makes this one better than the other two. I just connected with it on a much deeper level.
24. Seek Hi Seek Lo by Josh Garrels
Folk, Singer-Songwriter
I’m not even sure this qualifies as an EP and I suspect the songs are just what he has chosen to release from his highly-anticipated new album. These four tracks are a reminder of the quality, heart and art Josh has delivered consistently for over a decade and it’s no surprise to anyone he is on this list.
23. Lofi Psalms Vol 2 by Tom Read
Lofi
When you bring one of my favourite genres and the book of Psalms together, what you have is the best lofi EP of the year — in my opinion. Listen, Tom Read has been doing this for a hot minute and he’s very good at what he does. Please check out the other entries in this Psalm series if you haven’t yet.
22. Grafted In by Raphah, Patrick Spatz, inamomentimalive
Ambient, Post-Rock
There are a few ambient projects on this list but none as unique as this one. It has a distinct minimalistic quality to it. That, combined with some of Patrick Spatz’s odd post-rock sensibilities and the atmospheric leanings of inamomentimalive, makes for a decent collaboration.
21. Service Music by Paul Demer
Singer-songwriter, Folk
If you’re looking for a release that balances a devotional worship direction with an artistic folk approach, this is the best EP from 2024. Everything else is either an album or has already been mentioned on this list. Paul Demer, as always, knock this one out of the park.
I’ll be back soon with the next 10 entries.
That’s it for today.
Catch you soon!
