i cannot be shaken
[Pop/Worship] Meet Lindsey Jo and listen to her debut single.
Hi Pal,
If you’re new, welcome to the best corner on Substack for Christian alternative music. I hope you will stick around.
My Review
A few years ago, I did a personal study of the book of Psalms for the first time in my life and was surprised to find that my previous impression of the book as a book of “Praises” was a bit of an oversimplification. Since then, I have fallen in love with the different themes of this book, feeling myself particularly drawn to the Messianic Psalms and the Psalms of Lament.
This song is inspired by one of the Psalms of lament — Psalm 62 — and it’s clear from the get-go that it was born from a place of pain. Yet, it does a good job of striking a balance between vulnerable and hopeful as she sings in the chorus,
…I’ll pour out my heart before you
Lay all that I am at your feet
All of my fears and failures
Dissolve in your salvation sea
For you alone are my source of hope
Within the walls of your love
I cannot be shaken…
Musically, it’s a straightforward acoustic pop song with easy strums and compelling accompanying strings. Lindsey’s voice is light and blends well with Andrew Ross (a.k.a. BNDSRVNT) whose tenor has a peculiar dry quality that works in the harmonies.
As far as debuts go, it’s a compelling way to be introduced to a new voice on the scene and I’m looking forward to much more from her in future.

Meet Lindsey Jo
I grew up in Nashville, TN- moved to Chattanooga, TN/northeast GA for college for a few years, then to MO for a brief stint, and then during COVID, I moved back to Nashville to stay with family while I figured things out career-wise. This was the biggest blessing and sparked my pursuit of a music-related career.
I learned to play guitar/piano in high school and ukelele in college but never invested in it until post-college when I moved back home. I joined the worship team and songwriting group at my church in 2021; the first place I started to write songs and do lead vocals. I planned to write an indie pop album (and was 80% of the way to finishing it & it entered production) but the Lord tugged at my heart and led me to start writing worship music instead. This is when everything clicked for me.
Earlier in 2024, I formed a worship collective called Rooted with two of my close friends from my church, Eric Doussard and Andrew Ross, and we have an album coming out in November (Editor’s Note: the album is out already
here). I sing lead vocals/harmonies, songwriting, and social media for our group. I'm also super involved in my church, co-leading a small group with a close friend and serving our church body.
Beyond The Music
Outside music, I ran collegiate track and today I pursue competitive running/triathlon. I completed my first two half marathons and my first trail race last year. I’m currently sidelined from running with a hip injury but I plan to return when I am cleared to start training again in 2025.
Inspiration Behind Song
Since the spring of this year, I experienced a lot of hardship in my personal life; some because of following Jesus. I've been reading the Psalms this year and stumbled across Psalm 62 during a rough patch of discouragement.
It resonated deeply with me, I knew I had to write a song about it. One afternoon, I sat on my bedroom floor with my guitar and hashed out why things were so hard and how great God's love and strength are. In an hour, I Cannot Be Shaken was finished. I was pursuing songwriting jobs and my bandmates were helping with my demos, so I showed them the track to see if they thought it could go in the mix.
They were so moved by it that they urged me to release it as a single. I wrote the piano piece shortly after and then, we decided to make it happen. Featuring Andrew (BNDSRVNT) on the track, who is also going through some things, meant the world to me. It was very emotional for us to record together and relatable experiences made the song more special and beautiful.
