Hi Pal,
I hope you had a great Easter weekend. If you enjoy all the work I do here, don’t forget to share it with a friend.
If you’re new here, Civilized Creature is an electronic project by Ryan Lane that explores various corners of the electronic soundscape, usually with some hip-hop sensibilities infused. For longtime readers, you probably already know who because I have written about him a lot.
When an artist finds new and interesting ways to surprise and impress, there is a tendency to keep talking about them and that is why we are here.
Being a longtime fan of electronic music, I started with EDM and slowly dived into other genre expressions like House, Trance, IDM, post-dubstep and experimental electronic music. As a fusion genre, trip-hop has always had a place in my heart because of the creative ways that hip-hop is infused into the synth samples and mixes; Ryan Lane has become a master of this over the years.
As we stepped into 2024, I noticed some subtle changes in the creative direction of Civilized Creature. They are little things that are easy to miss if you haven’t obsessively listened to his music for the last three years. Fortunately for me, I have.
On the single, Wherever Kingdom, which featured some incredible trumpet work from Comewme (a.k.a. Malachi Prillerman); we have the first indication of Ryan’s pivot into deep house territory and it took me by surprise. In Your Name expands on this sonic exploration and it is blessed by Kalisito’s compelling vocals.
Lyrically, as always, Civilized Creature is on point as the song speaks about the confidence and assurance we have in the name of Jesus. Seems like the perfect tune for an Easter Monday right?
Do you like reviews? If yes, read here. If not, I guess that’s fine.
