About It Is Well
The second in a series of lo-inspired hymns, It Is Well brings a more heart-gripping reflective, hymn to the collection of songs. Chosen because of its impact on her during difficulties in recent years, this re-imagining of the well-loved hymn aims to help listeners emotionally engage with the lyrics and the message through different instrumentation which changes as the song progresses—pulling together the relaxed sounds of lo and chill hop with Jen’s soulful vocals and a new added outro section based on Psalm 23.
Jen has been leading worship and worship teams for over 10 years with her husband, Adam, and is now stepping out on her own for the first time in a new season of music releases. She’s kicking off with a gorgeous series of hymn covers that she hopes will help connect younger audiences with the powerful lyrics of three popular hymns. She will then release original compositions further into 2025!
This is the second of my lo-inspired hymn series and is a song that has benefitted me on so many occasions, most notably when my Mum was in hospital with leukaemia.
It reminded me of a truth that I desperately needed reminding of and helped me to fix my eyes on Jesus in the darkest moments and see hope when there was seemingly none. We worked on this version for a while, wanting to convey the depth of the lyrics and help the listeners connect with them using diering instrumentation which progresses and changes with each verse.
I also added an outro at the end, as a personal summary of what I’d been singing. When I lead worship I often will linger for a while to sit with what we’ve sung and go over some simple biblical truth, and that’s what I wanted to do with this outro section. It’s inspired by Psalm 23 which has helped me in recent years. — Jen Jarvis
