It is impossible to talk about my love for Christian alternative music — particularly rock music — without speaking about Lacey Sturm and Flyleaf. At the time, I was a tad new to screaming vocals and was very fascinated by it. When you combine that fascination with my love for female vocals, finding Lacey Strum as a young Christian was like taking a child to a candy store. After hearing singles like All Around Me and Fully Alive from their self-titled album Flyleaf (2005), I fell in love with her and the band. Memento Mori turned this love into a near-obsession. It’s a modern classic in the alternative metal genre that deserves all the praise it gets.
