Songs Named After A Psalm
10 of my favourite songs named after chapters in the book of Psalm.
Welcome to another Rapid Recommendations list.
Today, I’m focusing on some of my favourite tunes that are named after a chapter or some verses in the book of Psalm.
The book of Psalm is one of the most diverse books in the Bible because of the variety of authors and themes that it covers.
Anyway, that’s enough chit chat; let’s get into it.
Psalm 7 by Ryan Hadden & Friends
I’m not sure if we’re ever going to hear from these guys again, but their only album (as far as I know) titled Seven was released back in 2008. Psalm 7 is the last track on the album and it’s a beautiful folk tune.
Psalm 23 by Land of Color
The first of two songs of the same name on this list, I could not choose one or the other. Both songs deserve to be listened to and I really hope you appreciate this as much as I did.
Psalm 23 by Zach Winters
If you’re familiar with the Christian folk scene, you probably already know this song and this artist. If you don’t, Psalm 23 is as beautiful an introduction to Zach Winters as anyone could ask for.
Psalm 27 by Jonathan Ogden
Steering away from folk for a little bit, we take a dive into Jonathan Ogden’s world. With elements of chillwave and indietronica, this tune is one of the most calming worship songs I’ve ever listened to.
Psalm 42 by The Corner Room
The Corner Room is a musical project by Adam Wright dedicated to making music out of scriptures. So far, they have released three albums based on the book of Psalm alone. Any of these songs could have made this list, but there’s something about Psalm 42 that resonates with me.
Psalm 56 by Poor Bishop Hooper
Following the theme of the previous song, Poor Bishop Hooper began a Psalm project back in January 2020 to create a song out of every chapter of the book of Psalm. Any of these songs could have made this list, but the haunting piano arrangement of this song makes it stand out.
Psalm 66 by Curt Vernon
Curt Vernon has a unique and memorable voice. He has a few singles out based on the scriptures and four of them are from the book of Psalm. Of the lot, Psalm 66 has an atmospheric approach that gives it an undeniable edge.
Psalm 121 by All Sons & Daughters
A household name to many, All Sons & Daughters have released some of my favourite worship songs to date. This song occupies a special place in my heart because it was a part of a compilation album titled Praise & Arrows, inspired by the Lion of War book series.
Psalm 126 (feat. Molly Parden) by Bifrost Arts
Bifrost Arts is one of the best musical collectives I’ve had the privilege of listening to. Lending itself to Chamber folk influences, Psalm 126 is an unforgettable tune that reminds me of the promises of God.
Psalm 131 by Sarah Sparks
Sarah Sparks is one of the best storytellers I’ve listened to. She has a way of reflecting on the human condition as it comes to terms with the realities and the person of a divine—loving, all-powerful and all-knowing — God. This is the beauty of this song.
As a bonus, I created a playlist for easy access to these beautiful songs. Check it out here:
That’s it for today.
Until next time.
Keep listening!
