Lo-Fi Hits of 2021
Five Lo-Fi Albums from 2021 to end my reminiscing of the past year.
I’ve written extensively about the music of last year and it’s for good reason. I still do not believe that I have done 2021 enough justice and there are quite a number of releases that I did not get to talk about.
I will find a way to write about them in subsequent posts. With that out of the way, I bring my 2021 Rewind writeups to a close by telling you about my top five Christian Lo-Fi albums of the year.
I’ll do my best to keep this short and sweet. Also, keep in mind that this is a ranked list.
5 — holyday by Ahmo
As an album created to capture the Christmas spirit, this early December release has quite a number of things that work for it — calming solos, eclectic beat loops and groovy baselines. It’s a wonderful cocktail for lovers of lo-fi.
4 — All The King’s Horses by Yate
Oftentimes, it doesn’t get much weirder than Yate and this album isn’t any different. This album is as experimental as they come and has Yate playing with unique samples, loops and odd time signatures. My only problem is that I wish it was longer.
3 — fireside by solae
I have a soft spot for concept albums and that’s what makes this one so special for me. With an obvious focus on capturing the ambience of a fireside, there is a leaning towards more acoustic guitar and piano sounds while still maintaining a subtle lo-fi core. It’s just beautiful.
2 — BACKGROUND by Pedro Netto
Some might know him as one half of the alternative/worship sibling duo, Port Duo, who also dropped an album last year. Of the two major projects, this one was by far my favourite. It manages to be both relaxing and energizing at the same time and the product is quite good.
1 — Study Songs by Caleb Lockwood
With an album name that fits the ambience perfectly, Caleb Lockwood certainly achieved what he set out to create. Yet, in some ways, this simple explanation might take something away from the brilliance of this album. It’s surprisingly diverse and that is its strongest suit.
That’s it for today.
Until next time.
Keep listening!
Nice list! Looking forward to sampling all of them 👍🏾
