Anticipated Album Releases of 2022
Some Albums I'm looking forward to this year.
Hi Pal,
Welcome to another Rapid Recommendations Newsletter where I share some artists or albums that I feel deserve some attention on your listening queue.
Even with the number of albums that have dropped this year, there are artists/bands that have been quite high on my anticipated release pile. The artists on this list are those who have officially announced that they have a new album coming in 2022.
Jonathan Odgen
Four tracks from this album have dropped so far, but we still do not know when we will get Future Forever. With Ogden’s previous works as a member of Rivers & Robots, his singles and his Beat Tape album — Twenty Four — released in 2020; the anticipation for his new album is at an uttermost high for me. Check out the singles on Spotify if you haven’t heard them yet.
John Van Deusen
Since 2017, Deusen has been taking listening on a journey under the theme, (I Am) Origami. So far, three parts have been released and Part 4, titled Marathon Daze, is set to be released on June 3rd, 2022. Judging by the four singles I’ve heard so far, this promises to be an interesting chapter in the series.
Spencer Annis
Spencer Annis has fast become one of my favourite voices in indie-pop. I enjoyed his first two albums and I’m looking forward to his new album. He has announced that it will be dropping sometime in July and although two singles are out, we do not have a name for the album yet (at the time of writing this). The singles give me enough to look forward to and that’s why he is on this list.
Former Ruins
I got introduced to Former Ruins a few months ago and he is already one of my most played artists of the year. I love everything about his sound — his brooding baritone voice, the post-punk sensibilities, the atmospheric folk tones, and the underlying gloominess of the music. He has dropped two singles off his yet unnamed new album and they are both amazing.
Honourable Mentions
These are recommendations for albums or EPs that have been talked about, but not given a definite release timeline.
Wilder Adkins
A couple of months ago, Adkins spoke about a Lullaby album on his Instagram account. At the time, he had begun a fundraiser for the album, but we’re yet to hear any new details (at the time of this writing).
Beach Chapel
Beach Chapel also started raising funds for a new EP that should be released this year. A new single is also in the works for the end of May and I’m hopeful that we get the EP soon.
Ordinary Time
This folk trio announced a fundraiser on Indiegogo a few days ago for the recording and production of their next album. I liked their previous album and I’m looking forward to what they drop next. To support them on this project, see the link here.
That’s it for today.
Until next time.
Keep listening!

Patiently waiting for John Lucas. Other people I'm hoping for but Lucas remains 1 on the list.
