New Core Bands You Should Get Into
My Favourite Core Bands from the post 2010 Era.
Hi Pal,
Welcome to another Rapid Recommendations Newsletter where I share some artists, bands or albums that I feel deserve some attention on your listening queue. But first a little housekeeping…
I recently transitioned into creating paid content and although most of my other content is still free, I will be creating new content for paid subscribers. Rapid Recommendations is remaining in the free section, but still, if you’re willing to support the work I’m doing here, please consider it.
Between the late 1990s and early 2000s, Christian Core — metalcore, hardcore, deathcore and everything in between — experienced tremendous growth within the heavy music scene. Bands were popping up continuously and it felt like everywhere you turned, you could find many quality Christian metal bands to listen to.
Unfortunately, as we crossed 2010, the music scene in general rapidly began to evolve away from rock and metal music. Many Christian bands disbanded (for various reasons) and some other bands within the scene started to do away with the term ‘Christian’ as they didn’t want their music to be restricted to a limited audience.
This resulted in a slow decline in Christian-themed lyrics even from bands that still chose to identify with Preachcore.
Still, life has a way of being cyclical and new bands have cropped up who are doing their best to satisfy the hunger for heavy worship.
When Forever Ends — Progressive Metalcore
These folks begin my list because they create my favourite version of metalcore. These guys obviously care about the quality of the music that they put out and it shows. Their 2022 EP is a vast improvement over their previous album (which was quite good) and it stands as one of my favourite releases of the year so far.
Diamonds To Dust — Deathcore
Diamonds To Dust are not playing around, they are serious about Jesus Christ as well as disgusting breakdowns. Although the band has gone through a number of member changes in its decade of existence, they have managed to keep going strong. If their 2022 singles are any indication, they are only going to get better.
Then It Ends — Metalcore
2020 was a tough year for the world and somehow, this band was formed during the course of the pandemic and recorded and released an album. Formed by members of former bands, A Past Unknown and Dividing The Masses, they have already proven in such a short time that they have what it takes to thrive in this scene.
Plead The Widow’s Cause — Post-Hardcore, Easycore
These guys are as new as they come. They dropped their debut album Pain Split in February. Yet, it feels like they have been around for at least 15 years. Their sound is reminiscent of the early 2000 era of Post-Hardcore/Easycore while managing to remain fresh and modern.
GratitudeTX — Hardcore
With two EPs to their name so far, these guys make chuggy, energetic Christ-centered Hardcore. Their second EP — Deathless Voices — is one of my favourite core releases of the year so far. They are absolutely worth checking out.
Jesus Wannabeez — Alternative Rock, Alternative Metal, Hardcore
Although they are not as heavy as some of the bands on this list, no band on this list captures the term heavy worship more than these folks. They exist to create theologically sound music rooted in scriptures to help folks worship God. What more could we ask for?
Bloodlines — Melodic Metalcore
They don’t come much better than Bloodlines. Bloodlines is a typical example of a modern metalcore band in terms of the evolution of the sound. With interesting synth keys and electronic samples layered around their music, they are consistently evolving.
So Much Hope, Buried — Melodic Hardcore
So Much Hope, Buried is a 5 piece melodic hardcore band hailing from Pennsylvania that also falls into the ‘new band’ category. I have to admit that my experience with their debut EP was love at first listen. First impressions are usually important when exploring new albums and this is as good as they come.
