Looking Back on 20 Years of Collide by Skillet
Celebrating a monumental milestone in the discography of an iconic band.
Hi Pal,
Welcome to this edition of Retro Corner, a newsletter specifically designed to reflect how quickly time passes. If it’s 20 years or more, it’s meant for this category.
Skillet is one of the most popular Christian rock bands of the modern era and by and large, they have earned their place and deserve the success they have accrued over the years within the Christian scene and the mainstream stage. Their sound, along with their band line-up, has gone through some major changes over the years with John Cooper and Korey Cooper remaining the oldest members to date.
In terms of their global success, Comatose (2006)
was the album that really stamped their mark on the scene with the release of hits like Rebirthing, Whispers In The Dark, and the title track, Comatose. It was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on November 3, 2009, and Platinum on May 20, 2016. Their follow-up album, Awake (2009)
built on this success with massive hits like Hero, Monster, and Lucy. Since that time, Skillet has become a household name for fans of alternative metal and hard rock music. I’ve always maintained that without Collide (2003)
, none of this success would have been possible.
