Bloodlines, Former Ruins, isaacxhopes, John Mark Pantana & More
Hi Pal,
Welcome to this edition of Right Now, a newsletter where I list out some recently released tunes that I love at the moment and give you reasons to love them too.
I’m currently walking towards 100 subscribers here. I want to hit that target before the year ends. Stick around for the updated playlist at the end. Also, you can check out the songs on all platforms using the embedded links on the titles.
Waking Up by John Mark Pantana
We’re kicking things off today with this dreamy folk tune. Waking Up is another beautiful addition to a collection of singles that JMP has been dropping since 2021. There is no announcement of a new project yet, but if these songs are an indication of things to come, his next album is going to be phenomenal.
False Infinities by Former Ruins
This is arguably my most anticipated single of the year and it did not disappoint. Levi Sikes’ lush baritone and eccentric lyrical expression are perfectly synced in this indie rock masterpiece. Without a doubt, this is his best song so far.
Hold On To Me by Andrew Osenga
Andrew Osenga released The Painted Desert in 2018 and disappeared for nearly four years. Thankfully, he is back and this is his second single of the year. This tune has folk-rock leanings and fills me with excitement for things to come.
PECULIAR by isaacxhopes
This brother is the truth! I’m not sure anyone in the Christian scene is crafting alternative/experimental RnB on this level. His 2020 album is one of my favourite releases from that year and he’s only gotten better.
Psalm of the Depths by Bloodlines
Bloodlines is one the best modern metalcore bands out there. After the release of their incredibly impressive Hevel EP from 2021, I was curious about how things could shape up for them in the future. Let’s just say they did not disappoint. There is a clear improvement in production value as they continue to spread their message of hope in Christ.
Change The World by Ri-An, Rachael Nemiroff
At this point, I can only hope that a Ri-An EP or LP is around the corner. Change The World is a laid-back, easy-listening tune with RnB leanings and lo-fi sensibilities. I can’t say enough good things about her music and you should check out older singles as well.
Timeframe by Civilized Creature
Ryan Lane (or as I like to call him, Mr Prolific) is back with another single. Early this year, he dropped a full-length album and he’s already back with two new singles, so far. Timeframe is a retro hip-hop tune with electronica infusions. In some ways, it’s classic Civilized Creature but he still manages to keep things fresh.
Theophany by Some Were At Sea
Fast becoming one of my favourite ambient projects out there, the release of the Theophany EP was a pleasant surprise. I adore every track on this EP but the title track holds a special place in my heart. My only criticism is that the song is too short. I really needed more.
That’s it for today.
See you soon!
