Hi Pal,
Welcome to this edition of Right Now, a newsletter where I list some recently released tunes that I love and give you reasons to love them too.
Madhouse by Colorvault, A. Bishai
Indie Rock, Art Rock
In the three weeks since this song has been released, two of my friends have mentioned asked me if I’d listened yet and for good reason. Colorvault
always brings it so I expected the song to be good. But there are levels to this thing. Madhouse is organized chaos in sonic form, from the erratic drum fills to the blaring horns. Yet, it’s still soothing in a very odd way. Maybe it’s the sublime vocals or because the song is speaking about the love of God as our only safe haven. It just works.

hold on to ya by THEM PARENTS
Indie Folk
Will THEM PARENTS
ever release a full-length EP or album? For this husband and wife duo whose premise for their project is inspired by balancing family life with music, I’m not sure if we’ll be getting something extensive anytime soon. Still I can’t deny the fact that every song they have ever released has been incredible and this is not any different. David Carpenter
’s brand of ethereal atmospheric folk is wonderful to listen to.

Intercession by Before Flags, inamomentimalive, Haleigh Swansen, Patrick Spatz
Experimental Post-Rock
Every time I listen to a Before Flags
single, my first thought is usually, “These folks understand experimental music”. I’ve been listening to post-rock for a long time and there aren’t many projects that come close to making what Before Flags does. Intercession is just incredible with the progressive droning sounds and muted atmospheric noise. It’s everything you want in a song of this genre.

on my way! by Cortes
Alternative Pop, R&B
Cortes
’ debut album back in 2019 was an alternative hip-hop and R&B classic. Since that time, I’ve been curious about what direction he was going to go next. He released some singles between 2020 and 2021 that have a similar sonic direction to this single. The R&B undertones are still evident in this is clearly an alternative pop song. The instrumentation and production are stellar and its message is a testimony of salvation and growth in grace that keeps me coming back.

Carry Me Away by For Tuesday
Experimental Indie
Yeah, this brother is gunning for my Album of the Year #1 spot. There is absolutely no reason why this song should be this good, but it is. For Tuesday
has been dropping hit after hit building up to the release of his new album. Carry Me Away is another step in the right direction inspired by the book of Zechariah chapters 5 & 6. It’s so beautiful folks. Dreamy and soothing sounds for lovers of indie.

Smoke of Their Torment by REFORMED, Victor Borba
Metalcore
Reformed
is brand new on the scene and they deserve to be heard. Dedicated to evangelism through metal and what we have come to know as “preachcore”, we can never have too much these bands on the scene. Still, when I heard this song, I could hardly believe this was their first single. Smoke of Their Torment has a song structure that reminds me of early 2000s metal, even with the production being very modern. It doesn’t do anything profoundly new but its quality cannot be understated and I cannot wait to hear more from these guys.
