Hi Pal,
Welcome to this edition of Right Now, a newsletter where I list some recently released tunes that I love and give you reasons to love them too.
For He So Loved by Bec Armour
Indie, Singer-Songwriter
The biggest compliment I can give to Bec Armour and her music is that no one quite sounds like her. There’s a delicate fragility to her voice and sound that breaks me every single time. For He So Loved is a piano-led ballad that reminds us of the faithfulness of God and the sacrifice of love that was made through Christ’s death. Drawing inspiration from a number of familiar Scriptures, Armour’s superpower is how her songs can be steeped in simplicity and still have an incredible impact.

Psalm 15 (Who May Worship) by Will Gray, Sarah Téibo
Alternative Gospel
The best way to describe this tune is the meeting of two worlds. Will Gray has been releasing songs in this Psalm Series for a little over three years now and he generally creates within the alternative/indie soundscape. Adding Sarah Téibo to the mix with her contemporary gospel style creates something that none of them could have achieved alone. While the instrumentation still retains some of Gray’s signature feels, particularly with the guitars and keys, the song arrangement and vocal harmonies clearly draw inspiration from gospel roots. It’s a beautiful tune and feels like the beginning of a new phase of the Psalm Series.

Praise by NORMN
R&B, Pop
NORMN is an artist that I am quite new to but he’s a reminder of the reasons why this space exists. Praise is a simple tune that does everything right: scripturally sound lyrics, groovy beats, solid production and a catchy chorus. As the name and song art might suggest, it’s a feel-good song that reminds us of the blessings of God.

Dominus by War of Ages
Metalcore
There’s a part of me that wasn’t expecting new music from War of Ages for a little while because of the tragic passing of long-time drummer, Kaleb Luebchow, in July. It’s difficult to know just how much — if at all — this event will have on the record. In the end, you can only let the music do the talking and from the moment I heard this single, I knew their new album was going to be one of the best of the year. Three singles in [Editor’s note: at the time of writing this]
and nothing has happened to change my mind. Dominus is an incredible tune that gives all glory to the Lord Almighty.

reflection by Isaac Wheadon
Lo-fi Hip-Hop
Anyone who is familiar with Isaac Wheadon’s music should already expect quality from him whenever he drops new music. With such a proven track record and an expansive discography, one might think that he may struggle with keeping things fresh. This is one problem that seems to elude him and I’m not particularly sure how he does it. I’m just glad to have another tune to add to my playlists.

Everything Will Be Alright by Sarah Juers
Indie Folk, Alternative Hip-Hop
Sarah Juers has a new album dropping in two days. I love her sound because she has a way of gliding between alternative/indie sounds and R&B with occasional hip-hop infusions in her production. The strength of her music lies in her ability to communicate emotions in ways that make you connect with the message of her songs. This song is a good example of this, and I can’t wait for the rest of the album.
