Christian Singleton is a producer, singer, and songwriter in Asheville, North Carolina. She has been bringing a new sound to worship music, expanding genre boundaries and making music that bridges the gap between personal life and spiritual truth. She has a passion to use music to bring people closer to the Lord, to express who He is and lift Him up in our everyday lives. Her music is contributing to the power of prayerful praise and worship music with sounds that you won’t hear anywhere else.
Rob Ray is a Christian singer/songwriter currently living in middle Georgia. After spending the majority of his young adult years preparing for a life in ministry, he changed course to carry on the sixth generation at his family farm. His musical influences range from Al Green to Outkast to Jack Johnson, & he tries to infuse a wide variety of sounds into the music he creates.
Background & Inspiration: From Christian Singleton
This song was written from a place of frustration and disappointment. I think we all have an idea of what we want our life to look like by a certain age and then when it doesn’t happen we can become discouraged. No matter what season we are in, we have to trust in the Lord’s timing. He knows what's best. Even when we don’t feel like things are working out, He is always working for our good. People come and go in life, but He is faithful and constant throughout everything.
I actually wrote this song two years ago but could never finish it. I asked Rob Ray to join me and he wrote the first verse which helped me write the second. I kept the original choruses and ending. I’ve always wanted to work with Rob and thought our voices would go together well.
I really wanted to dive more into my acoustic southern roots, so I had Michael Andrews play dobro. Foster Ferrell helped me with production by adding the organ and some lap steel, while I recorded the rest myself (drums, bass, acoustic guitar). Foster also mixed the track and it was mastered by True East Mastering.
My Thoughts
Life can get really weird and a lot of times, we tend to find crutches and pillars to hold on to that we can connect to in a physical or emotional way. Unfortunately, these things - or sometimes even people - tend to disappoint us because there is no guarantee that they’ll be with us till the end.
The only constant that we have is God, and although His presence can affect our physical bodies and our emotions, He remains unseen. We connect with Him through His word by faith.
Now, Christian Singleton and Rob Ray did not say any of the above. In fact, musically, it’s a simple and smooth acoustic tune with southern folk elements. Rob starts the first verse and switches to harmonies as Christian takes the melody in the chorus. Christian takes the second verse and they repeat the chorus before an instrumental interlude and a concluding vamp as they sing:
Throughout everything, you’re the only constant thing
Every now and again, we all need a reminder to tell us that Christ is the only one that will be with us no matter what. This song did that and I’m glad about it.
