Song Release: Longing & Nostalgia Meet On Christian Singleton's "I Just Want To"
Press Release For New Single By Christian Singleton & Sam Bowman
Bios:
Christian Singleton is a producer, singer, and songwriter in Asheville, North Carolina. She has been bringing a new sound to worship music, expanding genre boundaries and making music that bridges the gap between personal life and spiritual truth. She has a passion to use music to bring people closer to the Lord, to express who He is and lift Him up in our everyday lives. Her music is contributing to the power of prayerful praise and worship music with sounds that you won’t hear anywhere else.
Sam Bowman is a producer, singer, and songwriter based in the frozen tundra of Dallas, Texas. He has a deep passion for writing, creating, and pushing tiny buttons that make noises- the latter of which he discovered on an iPad at age thirteen. Most of all, Sam loves using music to tell stories. He believes music was created by God to tell the ultimate story of the human experience- the apex of which is experiencing Christ’s love for His people, and love for Christ Himself. However Sam attempts to touch listeners' hearts, blow their minds, or even make their heads nod in an approving “vibey” sort of way, he’s a storyteller at heart that wants his listeners to see Christ exalted.
Background & Inspiration: From Christian Singleton
In Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most beautiful places to hang out. There are amazing views of the mountains and the sunsets are just stunning. You’ll find me on it frequently, especially in the summer and fall seasons. Some of my favourite waterfalls and lookout towers are off the parkway, so it’s a special place for me. I wrote this song thinking about how you dream of a situation and then realize it has become reality. The lyrics say:
“My dreams all come true with you right now, so let’s just stay right here.”
It’s about realizing that you’ve wanted something and you finally have it. It’s about taking time to enjoy that moment. Don’t take those memories or that person for granted.
The song is written to take you on a journey. You’ll hear the sound of cars passing at the beginning, birds chirping throughout and then the ocean at the end. Sam Bowman was the perfect producer for this. Everything he does is incredible and I’ve really enjoyed working with him. He really captured everything I wanted, especially the background vocals he did along with Michael Andrews. I originally sent Sam a vocal and an acoustic guitar track to get the idea out. We wanted to keep it pretty chill and I’m so thrilled with how it turned out.
My Thoughts
The sound of a waterfall acts as a backdrop to introduce a warm piano medley that leads into the first verse of the song. Structurally, I like the way the piano and the acoustic guitar share the spotlight; with the keys being prominent in the verses and the guitar in the choruses.
The song attempts — and for the most part, succeeds — to create a sonic space for the listener to escape to. A moment that captures this perfectly is the harmonies on the second chorus and the interlude that follows where you can hear the sound of birds chirping amidst the soothing keys and strums.
With a chorus of simple words:
I just want to be with you right now, I just want to be with you…
Its true power lies in repetition as the more the listener hears them, the more likely they are transported to a time in the past or a hope for the future where the sentiments expressed were or will become a reality.
On a personal note, I am currently physically separated from my wife and I couldn’t help but look forward to when we will be together again while remembering some of our favourite recent moments together.
These are the kinds of feelings that Christian Singleton, Sam Bowman and Michael Andrews have been able to capture succinctly and beautifully here.
