Song Release: Personal Reflections On God's Grace On Adryelle's "Collapsed Lung"
Press Release For New Single by Adryelle
Bio: Adryelle spins a musical web of ethereal beauty and energy that bounces across alt, synthwave and dream pop boundaries. Both a songwriter and producer, she follows in the footsteps of female musical revolutionaries like Kate Bush but clearly blazing a trail all her own.
Described as “stunning, cinematic, beautifully crafted” by Planet Stereo Live, Adryelle draws inspiration from the electronic roots of the 1980s--pulsating beats, angelic choruses, and thunderous percussion. Dreamy. Trance-like. And utterly gorgeous.
Raised on the moodiness of Nirvana and The Cure, traversing through the Baltimore Goth scene, Adryelle reset and relocated to California. The bright Los Angeles sun infused her songwriting with a certain brightness, bringing hope and delight to the still-melancholy feel of her melodies.
Background & Inspiration: From Adryelle
Collapsed Lung is one of many songs I’m working on about my story and testimony. This one is specifically about how I was born. I was born three months early and weighed 1.5 pounds. The doctors said that I was not going to make it and that if I did, I would have many complications like being blind or lame.
Thankfully, the church that my parents were attending at the time was praying for me around the clock. I made it out and I was able to come home after three months without any of those complications. However, I did have a collapsed lung which eventually got healed.
So it’s just a testimony of God’s grace at the start of my life and the fact that he brought me through that.
My Thoughts
On Collapsed Lung, Adryelle delivers another synthpop tune that is hard not to fall in love with. As someone who has been a fan of her sound for a little while, I admire her consistency and a clear focus on mastering synth and dream pop soundscapes.
Yet, as much as I would like to focus on the qualities of the instrumentation and production or the balancing of the synth layers with the drum beat and vocals; the beauty of this song is clearly in the lyrics. With sections like:
…1.5 pounds monitor beeping sounds, one collapsed lung three months in the hospital…
and
…Fitting into the palm of your hand, a shining star a brand new light, they said I would be blind, said I couldn’t fight…
it’s obvious that this is a song of great personal importance to Adryelle. I admire her ability to paint the picture of these events as a celebration of God’s mercies without compromising the emotional weight of the themes being explored.
As a result, it’s not a sad song by any standard but it also isn’t bubbly or overly cheerful. This balancing act is my favourite aspect of this song and I look forward to more songs from her in 2023.
