Monthly Recap for January 2023
Inside: HolyName, Fyr Fytr, Sam Bowman, Kate Gurren and more.
Hi Pal.
Welcome to the first monthly wrap for 2023! The Monthly Wrap is a monthly newsletter where I give a rundown of my favourite musical highlights of the past month.
Under The Lights
We’re only a few days in, but 2023 has already brought the heat with some interesting album and EP releases.
We start this list with the heavy stuff. Blue Fire Horizon dropped Disease, a gut-punching metalcore/deathcore album with an honest and reverent message at its core. Following that is HolyName with their self-titled debut release. Tommy Green’s return to music after the end of Sleeping Giant has him stepping away from the hardcore/metalcore roots of the past into a new sound that is parts post-metal, post-rock, alternative rock and worship.
Stepping away from the metal scene, Fyr Fytr released a new indie rock/dream pop album titled THE GLORIOUS IN-BETWEEN. I’m Healing by Ben Potter is an alternative worship album worth every second of your time.
Ri-An also dropped an instrumental album titled, When Words Fall Short and it's a relaxing listen. Love Broke Through by singer-songwriter, Stephanie Staples ends this list with its endearing pop worship sensibilities.
