Music Recap for February 2023
FLF x ImageryOnWax, Candace Coker, We Dream of Eden x Jonathan Warman and more.
Hi Pal.
Welcome to the monthly wrap for February! The Monthly Wrap is a monthly newsletter where I give a rundown of my favourite musical highlights of the past month.
Under The Lights
January ushered us into the new year with interesting releases, but February has undoubtedly kicked things up a notch.
We start this list with Bare and Bones by Candace Coker, a folk album that I’m certain will make my albums of the year list for 2023. It’s beautifully crafted and full of interesting ideas that are executed well. My favourite Israeli Messianic indie folk band Miqedem also released their third album, Eshkona, this month. I listen to quite a few artists from Israel but no band makes me wish I understood the Hebrew language as much as these folks. Heaven’s Dave, a band that thrives on creating modern acoustic folk interpretations of old hymns, also dropped an album named Beyond the Starry Skies.
For fans of hip-hop, FLF and ImageryOnWax collaborated to bring us the shalom EP. It’s a fun ride from start to finish. Even In The Darkest Night by Braden Drake is an indie pop/pop rock EP that surprised me and has slowly become a favourite for my work time. Mapmaking, Vol. 1 is a debut pop/R'n'B EP from Imani Shola, an artist that I have been following for two years now and I wasn’t disappointed. On the ambient music front, We Dream of Eden and Jonathan Warman collaborated on a stunning ambient/neo-classical EP, titled Wandering Mind. Finally, we have Lenten Songs by Kevin Schlereth, an acoustic pop/punk album that is short (a little over 18 minutes) and sweet.
