Week 12: 17.03.2024 - 23.03.2024
A snapshot of the major music releases for the week.
Hi Pal,
As always, links are embedded in the titles.
Burning — Zach Webb
Indie Folk (EP)
I was hoping we would get an album from Zach Webb, but I guess we will have to settle for an EP, for now. I can’t get enough of his atmospheric, dreamy brand of indie folk complete with emotive lyrics and moving harmonies. If you love indie folk, give this one a spin.
safety — Karissa Frampton
Alternative Pop (Single)
Karissa Frampton has been on a bit of a roll this year with this being her third single. I still can’t get enough of the vulnerability of her lyrics and the ways she can convey complex emotions with ease. This is another wonderful addition to her discography and I’m open to a new project in the coming days.
In Your Name — Civilized Creature, Kalisito
Deep House, EDM (Single)
As it stands, I’m patiently waiting for Civilized Creature to drop that new album announcement. Ryan Lane snapped this year because I’m not sure what we did to deserve all the back-to-back bangers we have heard in 2024. Kalisito also kills it on the vocals of this one.
Hydrangea — Zane Vickery
Indie Rock (Single)
My first encounter with Zane Vickery’s music was his 2022 EP, Where Is Your Faith: Volume One. I’ve long since listened to his discography and he is one of my favourite creators of indie rock on the scene. This new single is dedicated to his wife and it’s one of the best progressive indie tunes I’ve heard this year. If this is any indication of what the sound of the new album could be like, we could be in for one of the albums of the year.
The Rain Falls Sideways — Benjamin Daniel
Indie Folk, Emo Rock (Single)
I have a love-hate relationship with the ways Benjamin Daniel’s music can move me to tears. He’s just so good at creating delicate songs that do not ask for permission before breaking your soul. He has announced a new album for July this year and I’m not sure I am ready for it. It is going to be something special, for sure.
Nobody Wants to Be Poor | Early Morning/Late Evening — Zach Winters
Indie Folk (Singles)
Zach Winters has been releasing singles since late 2023 and I’m guessing they will be compiled into an album sometime this year. These two singles are quite different in feel and reflect the creativity of the artist. The first is fun, playful and a tad sarcastic in its lyrical approach while the second is emotive, ethereal and reverent lyrically. I love them both.
Find Me — John Jin Han
Indie Rock (Single)
If I can count on John Jin Han for anything, it is his delivery of cool indie rock tunes. I love how progressive the tune is, it starts slightly acoustic and muted and builds slowly into a satisfying energetic finish. It’s another cool single from him, but I expect nothing less at this point.
The Lost — Zoetic
Jazz Pop Fusion (Single)
One of the best things about Zoetic’s composition is the way the jazz chords and runs seem to sneak up on me every time I listen to a new song. They have a smart way of making their songs accessible for lovers of pop music while simultaneously satisfying those of us who are in it for the weirdness. Check it out!
Need Your Love — Ben Trip, Adryelle
Synthpop (Single)
This is one collaboration that I never really imagined in my headcanon, but here we are. I love these two artists and I think this song brings out some of the best things about their styles. Hopefully, we get more tunes like this.
grief — Faith Lofi
lofi hip-hop (Single)
I’ll never get over the way Faith Lofi can create impactful instrumental tunes that last less than 2 minutes. It’s probably because I’m already a fan of the genre, but this is one of those songs I can leave on a loop for hours and not feel the time pass by.
That’s it for today.
Catch you at the next one!
