Week 6: 04.02.2024 - 10.02.2024
A snapshot of the major music releases for the week.
Hi Pal,
Before we get into it, I’d like to welcome all those who subscribed this past week.
You — Taylor Armstrong
Dream Folk (Single)
Sometimes, you never know how much you miss an artist or band until you hear them again. Taylor Armstrong’s distinct dreamy and ethereal approach to indie music is what keeps me coming back for me.
immorality — CHANGETHEWXRLD
Shoegaze, Alternative, Screamo (Single)
I think I have been beating the CHANGETHEWXRLD drum for a little while here. I have a thing for unique experimental artists who bring a fresh twist to different genres of music. This tune is another example of the brilliance of this artist.
Decisions ‘n Deadlines — Tjay Suni, JYFL
Lofi Hip-Hop (Album)
We finally have an album from the creative collaboration between Tjay Suni and JYFL. In 2023, they released some of my favourite lofi instrumental singles and I’m glad we finally have a new album to enjoy this early in the year.
Writing On the Walls — John Jin Han
Indie Rock (Single)
I love the consistency of John Jin Han about indie rock music. I’m not sure if it is a deliberate creative choice or if he’s simply making what he loves. Whatever the case may be, he has been one of my favourite creators in the scene for years now. Writing On the Walls is a lovely tune, give it a listen.
No Longer Strangers — Raphah
Ambient (Single)
I was excited to see that Raphah recently signed with Echoes Blue Music because they have some of my favourite artists in their lineup. I’m not sure if this new single means we have a new project coming up, but it is a wonderful addition to my ambient playlist for the year.
Inheritance — Spencer Annis, OAKS
Indietronica (Single)
This collaboration is a pleasant surprise because I have been on a bit of an OAKS binge. Spencer Annis has also become one of the more established indie worship artists over the last couple of years. They work well together and this song reflects that.
see (like you) — Jeremy James Whitaker
Electronica (Single)
I love and have missed Jeremy James Whitaker so much! He has two singles released so far this year and they both reflect his signature electronic style. For those who are new to his music, if you are a fan of electronic music, you may be stuck here for a bit — and that is a good thing.
I Speak Jesus — Ri-An
Neo-Soul, Lofi (Single)
Rhyan Shirley (Ri-An) has grown to be one of my most played artists on the R&B/Soul scene. I’ve particularly enjoyed her recent instrumental projects but I’m glad to hear her soothing voice again.
The Meek & Lowly Kind — Benji Swafford
Indie (Single)
I love it when artists that I feel I’ve figured out creatively do something that blows me away. I’m enamoured with this song and I have a newfound respect for Benji Swafford. I hope we get a new project this year.
By The Water — Untidld
Lofi Hip-Hop (Album)
Just like the previous entry, an instrumental lofi hip-hop project is not something I would have associated with Untidld, who creates songs mostly within the rap genre. It is a welcome surprise and a wonderful album overall.
That’s it for today.
Catch you at the next one!
