Week 8&9: 18.02.2024 - 02.03.2024
A snapshot of the major music releases for the past two weeks.
Hi Pal,
Before we get into it, I’d like to welcome all those who subscribed this past week. I’ve had a hectic couple of weeks so today, we are combining two editions. Links are embedded in the titles.
Endless — tamsin frost
Indie Pop, Electropop (Single)
It’s so nice to hear Tamsin Frost’s voice again in new music. In all her songs, there is an underlying bright and hopeful quality present, irrespective of the theme. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a new EP this year.
Take Hold — Benjamin Daniel
Indie Folk, Indie Rock (Single)
Benjamin Daniel blurs the lines between indie rock and folk expertly and it’s one of the many reasons I love his music. His last two albums are favourites of mine and this new single continues that wonderful trend.
When The Turbulence Hits — Hopeful.
Indie Rock, Indie Pop (EP)
This one has been in the pipeline for a couple of years now and I’m glad it is finally here. Hopeful. has the potential to be one of the best indie rock bands on the scene for years to come and this is a great first EP from them.
Sorry — Austin Koukal
Dream Folk (Single)
Austin Koukal seems to be getting better with every new release and this is comfortably the best song I’ve heard from him — and yes, I have listened to his two albums. He’s becoming a master of this dreamy indie folk vibe and I am so pleased.
The Pressing In — Eliza King
Indie Worship, Indie Folk (Single)
If you’re looking for a long version of my thoughts on this album, you can catch that here. Eliza King released an album that balances creative indie sensibilities with devotional worship and it is my favourite album of the year, so far.
Kind — One Big Family Music (LOVKN, Kalisito, Cade Kellam, Christian Singleton, Kelsey J., Eva Swanson, Kelsey Breedlove)
Alternative Fusion (Single)
I’ve been waiting for this one for a couple of months now and it did not disappoint. Collaborative projects are usually a hit or miss for me, especially when there are many artists involved. After listening to this single, this is currently one of my most anticipated albums of the year. I’ve long listened to most of the artists on this lineup and am looking forward to more tunes.
Quiet Soul — The Found
Indie Folk (Single)
The Found have not been making music for very long but they have already become quite memorable to me because of their infectious melodies and honest lyricism. I like this new tune and can’t wait for more this year, hopefully.
Weatherboy — Matthew Parker, Sam Bowman
Electropop, EDM (Single)
Sam Bowman has become a recurring name in this newsletter because he doesn't know how to stop dropping hits. Admittedly, I have a strong electronic music bias, but can you blame me when it sounds this good? This time, it’s a collaborative track with Matthew Parker, a legend on the scene and a longtime favourite of mine. I can only hope they make more tunes together.
Sleep Scenes Vol. III • Eventide — Dear Gravity
Ambient, Cinematic Post-Rock (Album)
Since 2019, Dear Gravity has been releasing a series of ambient instrumental projects inspired by nighttime and sleep. I enjoyed the first two parts and this is a wonderful addition to the collection. If you’re a fan of this sound, please give this a listen.
Before — Tekoa, Watobi
Alternative Fusion (Single)
Tekoa is a lot of things and predictable is not one of them. As is often the case with them, this song draws from many creative pools while still maintaining the reverent lyrics that have made them a constant on my playlists.
Fruit Of — Civilized Creature, Modern Temple
Experimental Electronic, Triphop (Single)
I’ve run out of the superlatives to use to describe Civilized Creature’s creativity. All I will say is that I haven’t heard any song about the fruit of the Spirit that sounds this fun. Modern Temple also kills it on the vocals.
