So You Want To Get Into Lo-Fi
Seven artists and projects to get you into Christian Lo-Fi.
If you’ve been here before, you know what the column is about. If this is your first time here, check out our first post here.
What Is Lo-Fi?
Lo-Fi is a subgenre of electronic music usually characterized by drum loops, jazzy chords and samples. It’s generally relaxing and chill, sharing similarities with downtempo, chillwave and other mellow electronic expressions.
Today, I’m sharing seven albums/projects by seven artists I think you should check out.
Okay, that’s enough with the chit chat. Let’s get into it.
Origins by solae (2020)
There is so much to like about this duo and how they approach their craft. You don’t have to take my word for it, just listen.
TwentyFour by Jonathan Ogden (2020)
To define Ogden within the bracket of Lo-Fi alone would be a mistake. Still, he dropped one of my favourite Lo-Fi fusion projects of all time in 2020.
Sprng Tape by Isaac Wheadon (2020)
Leaning more into Lo-Fi hip-hop, Wheadon’s seasonal tapes are some of the works of 2019-2020. Sprng is my favourite of the lot, but they are all worth a listen.
Silverline by Xael (2020)
Xael is different. Silverline is an eclectic and refreshing take on the genre and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
Sabbath (Beat Tape) by Ben Potter (2020)
Ben Potter is another person on this list who cannot be defined by Lo-Fi alone. Yet, there’s no denying that he knows his stuff.
PREACHERS by fount + flame (2020)
Relatively new to the scene, this family of worshippers know their craft and they delivered an unforgettable album last year.
Bedroom Lofi. by Lord’s Child, Montell Fish (2019)
This list would be incomplete without Montell Fish. Over the years, he has shown an undeniable commitment to the craft and it’s evident on all his projects.
That’s it, folks.
Until next time.
Keep listening!
