We kick off this list with my favourite accidental discovery of the year, so far. Candace Coker is a Trinidad-born folk singer-songwriter that infuses sounds from her afro-Caribbean roots into her composition style. This pairs up beautifully with her soulful voice to create a surreal and soothing listening experience. Desert perfectly encapsulates everything I just described, and you should be listening.
Time And Time Again by Braden Drake
Braden Drake is what happens when you pay attention to the artists that your favourite artists talk about. Ryan Lane (aka Civilized Creature) talked about Drake’s new EP — Even In The Darkest Night — on IG and I went to check it out. Time And Time Again represents everything that is good about this project. It’s a fun, easy-to-listen indie pop/pop rock tune that glorifies Jesus.
